Is smoking a habit or an addiction?


It’s partly both! The act of smoking is ingrained as a daily ritual. It may be an automatic response for you to smoke a cigarette with your morning coffee, while taking a break, while driving or while socialising. Any act that you repeat over and over becomes automatic. You don’t have to consciously think about it, as it is automatically done subconsciously. If you are smoking 20 cigarettes per day and taking say 10 puffs per cigarette that’s 200 times a day that you are repeating the act of smoking.
